• Just 12 miles from Richland you can visit the
town of Halfway, a small ranching community. |

• Prior to entering Halfway you can stop at the
Tim Goodale scenic wayside and visit the
Tim Goodale Memorial Trail Kiosk. |

• From Halfway just a short drive of approximately
10 miles at Milespost 64 you can take a trip
to the Hells Canyon Overlook area, this should
be during the summer months. |

• Or drive on down the canyon to the Brownlee
Dam on the Snake River. You can also visit the Hells Canyon Dam while you're there. |

• Going West from Richland on Hwy. 86 you can visit
the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center and from
there visit Historic Baker City Oregon. |

• From Baker City you can take Hwy. 7 toward
John Day and visit the Historic Sumpter Valley
Railroad at McEwen. The Train runs every
weekend from Memorial Day through the last
weekend in September. The train ride will take
you into the Historic Town of Sumpter, Oregon
where you can visit the Sumpter Valley Dredge
State Heritage Area. Visitors get the chance to
tour the huge machine that from the 1930s through 1954
mined $4.5 million in gold ore from the Sumpter
Valley. |
