Ghost Town of Lime at bakercounty.net

The post office at Lime was established on September 4, 1899,
to serve the community that grew around the lime manufacturing business.

The large deposit of limestone provided lime for a considerable area
of Eastern Oregon and Western Idaho

Several of Baker City's prominent buildings are constructed from this stone.

The plant was expanded in 1916, and from 1923 to 1980,
over six and one half million tons were taken from the mountain area.

The huge plant has been vacant since 1980.
