City of Unity at bakercounty.net

A story is told by Robert Murray, whose grandfather settled in the valley
East of Unity in 1861, about the first post office in the area being located at
Tucker Swamp on Job Creek.

The creek was on the freight road to Baker City, about one and a half miles
from its present site today.

The settlers and the ranchers throughout the valley had a meeting to
decide where to move the post office as they felt that the
present site was not convenient.

The community all agreed on the new location and were so pleased
with their decision that they decided to call it "Unity".

The post office was established in 1891.

Unity Rock Formation

The beauty of this rock formation exemplifies the diversity of Baker County scenery.
Nearby is Unity Reservoir, located on the Burnt River, and Unity State Park. To the East is the Eldorado mining region, with its' 100 mile-long Eldorado mining ditch, laboriously hand-dug by Chinese Laborers.

Take Highway 30 South of Baker City to Highway 245. Head South on 245, then East on Highway 26 to Unity Reservoir and the small community of Unity.
