Town of Wingville at bakercounty.net

Wingville was once a thriving little village Northwest of Baker City.

Many Southern Democrats began migrating to Oregon in 1864.

Numbers of them had been soldiers in Major General Sterling Price's
campaigns in Missouri and Arkansas

The newcomers to Oregon were derisively termed by Republicans,
"the left wing of Price's army."

They contributed largely to the Southern mixture in the
pioneer population of Wingville.

Wingvilles' post office was established on June 23, 1871,
with John R. McLain as first postmaster.

The post office was later closed in July of 1879.
